pulsewidthmod,creates tracks that are very epic and driving in nature all of which are recorded as live techno jams using elektrons dark trinity and an ms20 mini. her influences from techno to industrial, ebm, and belgium new beat leaves the listener with some menacing drums and a juxtaposition of both pleasing and disorienting melodies. serpentine servitude explores the idea that perhaps the serpent in the garden of eden was really being humanities servant. who was this creator character to dictate which fruit was ok for us to eat? who was he or they to say that if we ate the fruit we would be tainted and forever separate from divine love? all this did was create the idea in our consciousness that we were tainted. it is of my personal belief that the idea that we are sinful is the original sin. this god character who created beings in his own image and then dictated how they were to live their life kind of sounds like an over controlling father. where is mother in all this? the album started with the track original sin which was originally titled acid. seems somewhat appropriate since the concept of original sin seems to be a violation on humanities consciousness

the next release on moreaboutmusic comes from one of chicago houses best kept secrets, often name checked by legends such as mike dunn, marshall jefferson, glenn underground and tyree cooper to name a few. a dj and producer, hugo grew up during chicagos heyday, at one point living with mike dunn and tyree cooper, where they would spend their days producing and recording tracks on the 808, 303 and 909, along with any other equipment they could get their hands on. the on to another time ep showcases hugos talents, giving you two straight to the jugular acid tracks with in, out & in (part 1) and in, out & in (part 2) with the flip seeing the mood shifting slightly with the deeper vibe of on to another time, the ep finishes up with a cut up disco joint the beat goes creating a solid ep and an excellent introduction to hugo h

get on down proudly presents another top-notch vinyl reissue, from their long-running series of collaborations with james brown’s famed 70s funk label people records. as the 1970s wore on, the classic funk sounds that had defined james brown’s backing band, the j.b.’s, gave way to the rise of disco music. fred wesley and his collective of musicians couldn’t resist the chance to make their mark, releasing “hustle with speed” in 1975, with charles bobbit and don love producing, and the godfather himself, james brown co-writing and providing arrangements. “hustle with speed” didn’t cross over like the band had hoped it would, but it was nonetheless remarkable album, featuring the j.b.’s signature funky style married with disco to exciting effect. all the while there’s still plenty to be had for the funk die-hard, from the brass blow-out jam “here we come, here we go, here we are”, to the trombone-heavy “all aboard the funky soul train”, to the powerhouse opening salvo that is “(it’s not the express) it’s the jbs monaurail”. songs from “hustle with speed” would take on lives of their own decades after the album’s release, through sampled appearances in tracks by jay-z, nas, eric b. & rakim, ultramagnetic mcs, epmd, and many more.

up next on trouble maker we have got some intergalactic riddims courtesy of newcomer cosmic weirdos - extra terrestrial. the aptly named >renegade< keeps things cool on the inside and rowdy on the outside....somewhere between electro & techno this is the track nasa have been trying to discover for the past decade. >satisfaction< takes us on a trip around jupiter and finds itself disco dancing with unidentified alien lifeforms. on the remix we have got someone who definitely knows a thing or two about inter-dimensional space travel - mr carl finlow aka random factor aka silicon scally - who serves up exactly the kind of quality you would expect from the captain of the starship enterprise. the truth is out there...

organic analogue broadens its remit on this killer boogie inflected diversion from italian producer croza. where the label has been often associated with deeper techno and electro, it sounds right at home exploring the moog bass licks and snappy drum programming that pours like a fine wine out of every track. night heat is the perfect lead track, all steamy synth throb and funky guitar licks, while feel turns up the pressure with a proto house burner that would have set the paradise garage alight. also look out for a rare appearance from ad bourke, who cruises on to the record to deliver a blissed out version of night heat for the smokiest of sundown situations.

tom ellard is the creative force behind australian post-punk band severed heads. in 1982 he self-released two cassettes of solo material, “80s cheesecake” and “snappy carrion”. these cassettes document the transitional period between the early experimental severed heads’ albums “clean” and “blubberknife” before the start of something new with “since the accident”. with the advent of the then new roland tb-303 bass synthesizer, a machine synonymous with the acid house sound, tom began to write more beat driven material. the rhythms are made by a tr-808 drum machine, kawai s100f and sh-1 synthesizers, plus various televisions, radios, cassette decks and pedals. two songs from these cassettes would later appear on the b-side of the “dead eyes opened” single.

matt flanagan has been making music as defekt, ess and tinfoil for the past few years, so who better to put out the debut release on first cut? we decided early on that there was no point in repeating his admittedly fine back catalogue, so matt went off one evening and did a 30-minute live jam on his machines. there was no real plan, but between us, we picked the three best bits, which you now own. then we had to come up with a name. initially, we toyed with the idea of calling it ‘fekt’ but then decided that only a local audience would appreciate the joke and that it wouldn’t travel well. octal step then emerged as the clear favourite. we sealed the deal to release ‘toner head’ over a cup of takeaway coffee on a bench in the stephen’s green cente in dublin. and why is gunter walraff on the other side of this sheet? well, he seems like a cool guy. plus he’s german and has a moustache - what’s there not to like about that?

we are not where we live, but the valley we built enjoyment through suffering. beauty in chaos. african ghost valley apply these principles to create their heavy doomsday electronics pulled in from the black bunker a d.i.y space under a multi-story car-park. separated from any scene on the surface, the record was put together by european / canadian duo childle grangier and gabriel ghebrezghi a partnership formed in the heat of heavily improvised recording sessions, where the pair would thrash out their versions of power electronics, industrial waste drops and rhythmic dub rumble to the cities homeless. keeping these raw fnal cuts away from any studio trickery, the microphone would be left on to archive feld recordings and wayward audio drops, capturing the hum and lifeblood of the bunker and the wheezing lungs of the dense concrete that surrounded them. titling this work colony, the album is a open-ended and multi-edged tool for agv to explore, allowing the listener to interpret the work as they see ft, bringing to mind images of corroded space settlements and the darkest recess of human history. you decide.

the lines you are about read are a laconic introduction to the music of an elusive new musician on antinote. biographical details about him would probably not help comprehend his music and might even seem slightly contradictory with the music itself, as reigi haipa has been produced in reims at least, it would have been much more accommodating if the capital of champagne was located somewhere in-between sheffield and london.

ras g and moresounds explore the outer reaches of sound system culture for dub-stuy’s new collaborative series of eps. brooklyn-based label dub-stuy kicks off 2018 with the inaugural release of a new ep series dedicated to unearthing and celebrating the outer reaches of sound system culture. taking its cue from the classic dub releases where two producers would face off with their own versions, dub-stuy’s meets series brings together artists who have a clear dub influence but do not operate solely within the sphere of the dub and reggae world. the first such meeting is between los angeles beat supremo ras g (brainfeeder, stones throw) and paris junglistic dub scientist moresounds (cosmic bridge, astrophonica).

after the sublime triple 12inch re-issue of the sonar bases 4-10 album on deeptrax records, it s now time for the second installment in the sonar base transmissions series: the album dark matter . all 6 tracks were produced by frank de groodt around 2004/2005 and were only released in the inner circle, never released on vinyl. this mini lp still sounds as fresh as it was produced 13 years ago, experimental on the drums and synths. when listening to sonic discharge and velvet sky of sonar 6 , the link with drexciya is easily made. sonar base takes you further into outer space territory with the dark sounds of polygone suffering and the title track dark matter there is the clear idm feel of tracks like meet you at tower 3 on sonar 7 . dark matter is a hypothetical type of matter distinct from baryonic matter (ordinary matter such as protons and neutrons), neutrinos and dark energy. dark matter has never been directly observed, however, its existence would explain a number of otherwise puzzling astronomical observations the mini lp is limited to 400 black versions and 100 on limited edition purple marbled vinyl, pressed by deepgrooves and fully remastered by thee j johanz. you know the drill!!

richy ahmed has been steadily building his four thirty two label over the last 12 months, introducing talented artists such as jansons and senzala to the fold. the imprint is fast becoming a go to label for those who like their house music uncomplicated and hype free, ensuring the chicago and detroit house sound burns bright with new music indebted to the roots of the music. after recent releases on seth troxler’s play it say it label, and remixes for london grammar, richy brings the goods back to home on this latest four thirty two release. on cant stop us, chunky stabs incessantly jab at meaty drums, as a female vocal loop rides on an opening filter. the good vibes build to a classic house piano crescendo that marshall jefferson would certainly approve of, as the soaring strings and evolving drums raise the rapturous mood to dizzying heights. on the flip, the percussive disco drums of dials mavis are bolstered by a booming sub bassline whilst deft keys and deep rhodes chords deliver the infectious melody on this bumping jazz ride.

dispatch dubplate reaches a milestone 10th release this april, with ukraine’s finest, dub head. joining the elite series, reserved for only the most in demand, unreleased gems, it was only time before his superb talents would lead to a disdub release from the aptly name producer. led by the mammoth “globular cluster” (a heavily requested staple of dlr & ant tc1 sets), #10 also features the dark, sinister “critical mass”, deep rolling progression in orchestra soul and the thumping “little more” as an exclusive track, only available to vinyl buyers. a limited run of 200 hand stamped and numbered heavyweight vinyl copies are available, do not sleep on these, as they will not be repressed.

black truffle is pleased to make oren ambarchi’s grapes from the estate available once more on vinyl. originally released on cd on touch in 2004 and reissued on southern lord as a limited double lp in 2006 during ambarchi’s tenure as a member of sunn o))), grapes from the estate was a landmark release for ambarchi, seeing him expand his sonic palette beyond the clipped, bass-heavy electric guitar tones he was known for at that point. incorporating subtle layers of strings, keyboards, percussion over a bedrock of his signature guitar tones, in retrospect this album can be seen as the beginning of a broadening and evolution in ambarchi’s work that would lead to his acclaimed, densely layered epics for editions mego, quixotism (2014) and hubris (2016).

arkityp, the imprint solely dedicated to archie hamilton and rossko s collaborations, returns in 2018 with its sophomore release - 3 for a tenner ep, landing in all good record stores march 19. born out of marathon sessions in hamilton s london based studios, the duo would road-test the outcomes of these endeavours, letting the dancefloors adjudicate the ep s final tracklist, one that elaborates further on the theme of aktp001 - growing up clubbing in the uk s capital. delving deep into the cross-pollinations between minimal, dub techno and tech house, this three tracker celebrates the attitude and energy within england s club culture, a culture that has profoundly impacted the perspective of both label bosses and their production style.

animals dancing continues its quest for world domination with a double a side of russian intelligence from moscows leonid lipelis. as the title would suggest, these two sides come from lipelis private arsenal of club tracks, beefd up and shared with the people after some friendly persuasion. i.o.d.t.f.m.b.n.i.f.e.

2018 blue vinyl repress made possible after a beat tape swap between prefuse 73 and dabrye after the pair shared the stage in detroit, instrmntl is a continuation of the beat experiments tadd mullinix began with one/three and a bridge to the diverse textures that would define two/three four years later. instrmntl offers a snapshot of a time when potentials seemed infinite, when lines could be drawn between jazz, ragga jungle, techno, and hip-hop and the resulting shape divined an exciting future.

taking melodies from various sources, the artist built the record with a common orientation contrasted by various asperities for each track. merging electronic strengths with complex aspects of original instruments, the record might be taken as a contrast that would satisfy both dancers and musical seekers with the objective to keep the mr godot risin.

giorgio gordano and giorgio dolce originally produced kkk back in 1983, and the track was taken into the hearts of the blossoming balearic scene hovering around dj alfredo at amnesia. its as gentle and sweet natured as italo disco can be, and of course it makes perfect sense that best records would dig it out of the archives and give it the shiny new reissue it deserves. the club mix of kkk is a feast of simple, charming programmed melodies and crisp drum machine rhythms with the innocence of the early 80s in its heart. the dub mix and bonus beats on the flip are handy for the technical djs out there, but the club mix is where it s at for the lovers.

the x vinyl series continues with label head florian meindl at the helm with the upcoming release metaphysics. synonymous with deep, dark techno, florian does not disappoint with this 4 track ep, enlisting in demand producer and rabe label boss denise rabe on remixing duties. playing live with his modular synth set up, florian began working on the concept for what would become these three original tracks while playing shows over the last month. the live jam character can clearly be felt in the first two tracks metaphysics and holomorphic function. florian s original bell s theorem has a deep melodic structure. with denise rabes interpretation, the track is contorted through some serious distortion pedals and broken beat to match her dark take on the synth line. the outcome is an impressive piece for one of those never ending nights in concrete walled rooms with oversized loudspeakers.

following up his now sold out redef debut (1996 beat tape, vol 1), veteran producer dj spinna returns with another wave of hard hitting instrumentals. entitled, unpicked treats volume 1, the “jigmasta” spinna has prepared the first of an ongoing series of beats that all have a similar story. making tracks for well over 2 decades, this latest project features a small collection of beats that were created with the intention of backing mc’s and vocalists, but were never officially used. rather than archiving the material, dj spinna realized his fan base would appreciate these compositions in instrumental form. after all, he is the same producer who has garnered respect from the likes of j dilla, pete rock, jazzy jeff and yes, the one & only stevie wonder himself. without giving too much of his process away, spinna challenged himself using the latest cutting edge software in tandem with some of his favorite gear from over the years. the end result is a glimpse into the spontaneous execution of top notch creativity. listeners will have an unobstructed view into the ears and mind of the artist. employing several different approaches, unpicked treats volume 1 maintains a consistent vibe throughout it’s 12 songs. whether, you love beat tapes, instrumental music or are entertained by the art of sampling, this record is a commodity. plans for volume 2 are already in progress, but in the meantime, be sure to get acquainted with unpicked treats volume 1 and the genius of dj spinna.

while lifting his head up from the process of writing, finding producers and recording for his magnum opus, baatin “the slum lord”, a former member of slum village, left this plane of existence. most would agree that he was true to his nature and never a dull moment. well, keeping with tradition, a decade or so after his ascension, the hidden gem is finally revealed. “don’t stop” is the first 7 inch single release available via loveturl/ fatbeats from the full length recording “uno zero”. the single features production from detroit’s own darnell murphy and a remix from the dirt sonic scientist dakim that will have you feeling caught in the vacuum of a black hole...on loop. known for his way with language and words, “don’t stop” are 2 hard quotable slum lord verses that hit a little too close to home at times...”still optimistic in a phantom/pullin over to let u throw up before you panic” or “we back from the future/you use to the style the we missed”. big respect to the titus glover estate and hugh whitaker for the teamwork on this one. loveturl is ultra proud to present: “don’t stop” from baatin the slum lord.

after a year’s hiatus optimo music disco plates returns with the first of several planned releases.
first up is long time friend phil kieran with an ep made specifically with optimo in mind. it has been tried and tested over recent months and more than ticks all our boxes. we feel confident it will tick yours too.
phil says “the ep was recorded in my house and made up of mostly live percussion performed live by thomas tettey annang. originally from ghana, he moved to belfast some years ago. it just so happens his wife is a close friend of my sisters and that was the first introduction. thomas now runs -releasing rhythms” here in belfast teaching drum classes.
we used a wide selection of traditional african drums that all have their own name, each one has a style and a sound. the rhythms used in this record would stem back to south american rhythms but using african drums. this was a sound and rhythm that influenced early post punk records in new york and still has an influence on dance music today.”

when we started the bunker new york label in 2014 there was a short list of artists whose music we knew that we wanted to get out into the world. lori napoleon, aka antenes, was high up on that list, although at the time the brooklyn-based chicago native had yet to release her recorded music at all. five years on, after acclaimed records on l.i.e.s. and silent season, residencies at issue project room and bell labs plus a busy global touring schedule as both a dj and live performer, we are proud and excited to present loris ante meridiem ep under her antemeridian production moniker. she tells us that the antemeridian project is a special outlet for her more melodic synthesizer compositions and the name antemeridian refers to morning light and the meridian lines of the planet, the view you would have from above if you were already in the sky/space/seeing the atmosphere also from a great distance.

yellow sunshine by the band of the same name is an essential proto-disco jam from back in 1973. a big one with the underground disco heads and b-boy dj s in the bronx alike this record is a sure-shot! often early hip-hop djs would buy 2 copies of this 45 or the lp and cut it up long enough for the crowd to get loose and into the groove. a party-rocker of the highest order. produced in philadelphia, originally released on kenny gamble s gamble label and featuring some heavyweight players including dexter wansel, roland chambers and more, yellow sunshine is the perfect blend of funk, rock & disco old school style. backed with don t tell me later girl a la the original 73 gamble records promo this one s an essential for anyone who digs that funk! there s always been poor imitations, but this 2017 repress is from the master tapes (yes, we can prove it) and is fully, 100% legit in every way. yellow sunshine now available again, released in conjunction with gamble / pir. back on the streets. same as it ever was! buy on sight!

about this release *first 10 tracks only come with the limited edition nijmegen s eshu welcomes co-founder ivano tetelepta for his first solo release on the label. it is also the imprint s first full length, but tetelepta s second album after the hypnotic drum workout that was true colours, his debut on fear of flying in 2012. it comes as a double vinyl release with the first disc being limited, and finds the producer casting himself free from the dance floor and serving up a beautifully atmospheric soundtrack that would be a perfect companion for a nature documentary. when making eps and 12-s, tetelepta s smooth and infectious drums are always front and centre in his work, whether solo or as producing with label mates under the eshu alias.

resonating as a solid nod to a culture rich in history and the pioneers of a sound that would become the very launching point to the countless musical styles we hear today, the latest from indiji bridges the gap between modern production and classic persona through timeless frequency.

re-release: released in 1993, the technology ep appeared on the start of a re-establishment of electro music and a beginning for the direct beat label. that would be a constant reminder of where to see aux88 material come to light. -technology- carried the aux88 brand onto radio, mainstream club and dance parties...become a sought after 12- by a band that proclaimed its sound as electro/techno . the techno bass mix is the original track, (now for the first time available) rhythm mix is a different animal on its own... within the track you can hear the growth of what would become the sound of emerging aliases in years to come and the use of distinct voices/vocals. with both versions from the original studio recordings in 1993, listeners will be treated to a major bonus point in the birth of the aux quadrant of projects to come. designed for a well-deserved space on the global dance floor.

this is the third ep by dutch post-techno project monocorpse... his style is evident by now: minimal and dark... a sort of doom techno for the freaked-out dance floor... but this new ep also feels like a soundtrack... rather moody and haunting music which would fit perfect in thrillers and psychological dramas... despite all of this there are some real dance floor tracks on this ep... stuff monocorpse never delivered before in this way...

tone series (ts) is glad to introduce to you to its second release tsrs02. in 2016, we launched tone series. so far, we ve have released five eps (consisting of two tracks each) all composed by french musician david k. midway between the first release ts10 and the last one ts01 (ts06 came out at the beginning of september 2017), we thought it would be interesting to ask artists we like to reinterpret one of david k s creations. as a result, we re delighted to present you tsrs02, 2nd ep of the tone series remix series, 2nd ep of the tone series remix series, consisting of: a. 24 bars per day (ts08) remixed by english music producer, live performer and mosaic label owner steve o sullivan,
b. friends (ts06) remixed by french music composer, dj and c.s.r. label owner cesar merveille.

arkansas native, lee moore moved to memphis in 1975 with only one goal in mind: to make it big in the music industry and to release music that would be played in new york, l.a and everywhere in between. as a singer and songwriter lee moore spent the 1980s collaborating in memphis with the best of the best session musicians and vocalists from labels like volt and stax records to record and release futuristic boogie, soul, and funk. lee moore unfortunately never got close to reach his goals of fame and fortune. past due records have saved the day yet again by reissuing for the first time the west coast inspired funk full length le gamby - double oo too sweet from 1985, truly a rarity and another glimpse of the unheralded genius of lee moore. yet again, this rare lp is virtually a ghost, known only to the hardcore record collectors and boogie funk aficionados. now is the time!

the inimitable cc:disco! has partnered with hyped underground label soothsayer to curate the first in a collaborative series of compilations entitled first light. soothsayer presents first light: volume 1 compiled by cc:disco! is due for release in february 2018 digitally and on vinyl. australias reigning champion of tasteful electronic music, cc:disco! has procured exclusive tracks from emerging and undiscovered artists across genres such as boogie, balearic, funk, disco and house with each sound piquing her interest, culminating in a finished product that would undeniably slot into a cc:disco! set. her mission statement? less chin stroking, more dancing. it captures what cc:disco! is all about: the dancefloor. the very first taste of first light comes in the form of a salty and sweet track called really want that by jace xl. premiered via resident advisor, cc:disco! explains: i remember the first time i heard jace sing in a bar, at first i thought a dj was playing then i looked up see jace singing his guts out. he blew me away! jaces voice is amazing and to me, a huge part of whats going on in australian music, so its with open arms we welcome him to first light. staub comes back on wax for a third episode. following the no name policy from the parties which started 5 years ago in it is time again for unknown artist to shine. this new ep sees the shy producer appearing on 4 tracks of pristine techno. a1 is an atmospheric trip while a2 is more brutal, on the b side it is going weirder and darker. we think unknown artist tries to craft interesting techno cuts and that he loves variety. that it is the idea behind staub since its beginnings, it does not matter whether you are a newcomer or lady gaga, what matters is the quality of the music. this is what was again aimed with this third record.

funky sobrietas is the slick love child by leuk en ko s jan duivenvoorden and richard van den bogaert. intended to be a poppy german italo duo for a wedding act amidst the squatting scene of the hague, the music they produced was of more value than just an one-off. from a shoebox stacked with dodgy recordings two tracks were selected that offer you the full funky sobrietas spectrum. maria is the anthem for the one you would die for, with unpretentious vocals and echoes but catchy synths nonetheless. sunny is six glasses of champagne later when the wedding is on it s flipside, with a nifty dry bassline and quirky synths. comes in opaque white vinyl and (again) beautiful riso printed artwork, pressed in limited amount (123) for all the die-hards out there.

marionette is very proud and happy to announce kilchhofer s debut album the book room. benjamin kilchhofer is not new to the world of recorded music, yet he doesn’t seem to fit into a particular scene or group. as an outsider he is, however, fully immersed and melded into his own universe. he mentally escapes to a parallel world and weaves an alternate reality which would otherwise not exist in his daily life. kilchhofer avoids the spotlight and therefore isn’t really visible in today’s culture of ever changing content and social media. this is where marionette steps in to attempt to shed as much light as possible on this unique and incredibly talented artist. the book room is kilchhofer s musical diary, it s his library of emotions. it s a fairytale, an imaginary place shaped by exotic cultures, an escape from modern society, a collage of real and imagined experiences. you can hear influences abstracted from a wide number of musical approaches: the story-telling nature of folklore music, naive and conflicting rhythms of tribal drums, melodies and pads reminiscent of classical minimalism and microtonal experimental music, the freeform approach of early electronic music and krautrock, and buried deep within the tracks some hints of hedonistic dance and club music.
